Designers as artist.

Lately there has been this movement of fashion designers collections being art collections and I just thought I'd comment on it and motivate myself to see Pulp Fashion at the Legion and Balenciaga at the De Young.

Two year's ago the De young showed Vivienne Westwood and I did not go. Now I wish I had as I love her stuff. In New York they are showing Alexander McQueen named Savage Beauty.

SFIFF is here! Yippee!

This year's 54th San Francisco International Film Fest is here. I've got my tickets but and my volunteer shift, do you have yours? You should really think about going they've got great movies. Check them out at http://www.sffs.org/sf-intl-film-festival.aspx

I can not wait. I am trying not to go to the movies but SFIFF had a screening and I got to see Henry's Crime with Keanu Reeves who I haven't seen in ages. He is so hot! I miss him. The movie was good but I think they could have gotten a better actress to be his love interest, Vera Farmiga just doesn't do it for me and she was playing a crappy actress in local theater.

But otherwise it was a great movie and had a very wonderful cast James Cann and Fisher Stevens to name a few. I really enjoyed it and think you should definitely see it.

I went old-skool roller skating last year!

I went old-skool roller skating....Last year!

Last year for my 40th birthday my friends surprised me and took me to a roller skating rink in Redwood City. It was on my list of things I wanted to do. And it is something I want to do again and again. We had a blast and dressed up 70's style but I am not allowed to show you the pictures. Everybody was completely against it especially me!  Did not look cute, trust me.

Reading for 2011

I didn't think I would get that much reading done but I did have spring break and summer so I should be able to power through some books.

I've read so far:
1. Real World by Natsuo Kirino
2. Between Friends by Debbie Macomber a real tear jerker.
3. Little Altar's everywhere by Rebecca Wells - nice Southern book

then I went to a book sale and got
4. Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain
5. Star Struck by Pamela Anderson
6. The Butt by Will Self - it a book about quitting smoking and I just noticed the authors name. I am not really sure about this one.
7. Dry (a memoir) by Augusten Burroughs
8. The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli (I thought I would re-read this because I had to power through this for school so maybe I'll get something out of it this time. But I just read the back and think not.)
9. Uncle Tom's Cabin By Harriet Beecher Stowe (I've always wanted to read this so I am kind of dying for school to be over to sink into this.)
10. Mary Queen of Scotland and the Isles by Margaret George (this is really thick so I have no idea how I will finish it but I love historical novels so who knows.)
I got all these for $7!

I also went to a book signing, my first, to see Sarah Vowell. I bought one of her book that I think I will truly enjoy
11. Take the Cannoli (she was so fun to see and I just love her voice.)
12. Let's Kill Uncle By Rohan O'Grady

keeping track of my reading

So I thought I'd keep track of my reading and see how many books I could enjoy in 2010 now that I am no longer in school. (the X by the book means I actually finished it.) Secretly I was trying to read a book a week but some books make it hard. Hears the list; I think this is a good way for me to keep track and come back and finnish some of these books I ended up finding a little bit harder to read.

1. The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery - book club pick X
2. Buddha by [The fact that he leaves his wife and child to find enlightenment really pissed me off so I found myself no longer caring about his path to enlightenment.]
3. Don't Worry Make Money by Richard Carlson, Ph.D. [All very common sense ideas, I really do intend to go back and finnish it.]
4. Comrade Rockstar (the life and mystery of Dean Reed) by Reggie Nadelson [As soon as I find this, I will finnish it.]
5. Fight by Sherman Alexee X
6. When the Emperor was Divine by X
7. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll X
8. Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll x
9. To Kill and Mocking Bird by Harper Lee X
10. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey X
11. Haroun and the Sea of Stories by Salman Rushdie X
12. A Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man by James Joyce [He is hard and I'm just not that motivated.]
13. Mirror Mirror by Gregory Maguire X
14. The Inferno by Dante Alighieri translated by John Ciardi [Great book, need to find it and finnish it even though I already know how it ends which makes it hard to read.]
15. Alive in the Necropolis by Doug Dorst X
16. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by S. L (book club pick) X
17. Love and Longing in Bombay by Vikram Chandra X
18. My Tango with Barbara Strozzi by Russell Hoban X
19. Noir a novel by X
20. My Name is Red by [ I can not for the life of me remember why I stopped reading this book because I remember it was interesting. I'll have to find it and pick it up again.]
21. White Teeth by Zadie Smith X
22. Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain X
23. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain X
24. Choke by Chuck P X
25. Sense and Sensebilities and Sea Monsters by Jane Austin and X
26. Ghostwritten by David Mitchelle (Book club pick!) X
27. Theresa Raquin by Emile Zola X
28. The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield X
29. Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese   (book club pick) X
30. Robinson Crusoe by Daniel DeFoe [This is what I consider a boy book. It was good but really slow the funny part is I only have 30 pages left; just need to find that motivation.]
31. Let the Great World Spin by Colum McCann (book club) X
32. The Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Ford (book club) X
33. The Monsters of Templeton by Lauren Groff (book club) X
34. From Dead to Worse by Charlaine Harris X
35. The Pint Man by Steve Rushin X
36. The Mistress of Spices By Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni [slow paced but I want to see the movie because it is set in Oakland.]
37. Grab on to Me Tightly as if I Knew the Way by Bryan Charles X
38. A Place to Stand by Jimmy Santiago Baca (Good read just a bit depressing so I had to give it a rest.]
39. The Blue Highway by William Least Heart-Moon [I had this book then read a review that it was as god as On the Road but I am finding it a bit dull.]
40. Smart Couples Finnish Rich by David Bach [Finance books are always so challenging for me and this one requires us to sit down and discuss the future.]
41. The Girl who Set the World on Fire by S L X

Looks like if I could find the books I would be able to finnish them. But it is not a bad lot. Some of these books were truly a pleasure to read.
